I have been a great fan of Sherlock Holmes for as long as I can remember. I was about seven years old when I first began to read the books for myself, and from that moment on I was hooked!
Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes
I found everything I ever wanted from a book, right there on those pages. There was crime, excitement, exotic places, strange and peculiar tales and above all, it thrived in the Victorian London of my dreams! There was something magical about that blend of gaslight, top-hats, Hansom cabs and calling-cards.
Portrait of Holmes
My favourites of the original books are "Wisteria Lodge" and "The Musgrave Ritual". As well as the books them selves, there are audio-cassettes, videos, films and all manner of really great things to enjoy!
Hundreds of spoofs, parodies and ideas based on the Holmes stories have appeared, such as "Basil the Great Mouse Detective" (I think he's so cool!) and "Shirley Holmes" who I don't think quite so highly of!
The very irritating Shirley Holmes and her "Watson" figure, Bo. (Sorry, I just don't like her a lot! :p)
Over the years, hundreds - if not thousands - of actors have portrayed Holmes and Watson. Perhaps the three most famous Holmes have been Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone and Peter Cushing.
Many sites ask you to vote on your favourite holmes, but I'd like to know who is your favourite Holmes and Watson team? Please let me know your opinion in this poll. I'm interested to hear the results. Make your vote count!!
